Hosting with Paper Eliza
Katherine Houston
On a blog today we're talking hosting & favors with the incredible & talented Eliza Bishop from Paper Eliza. She was generous enough to sit down with The Kind Favor to chat all things events and what makes the experience as both a guest and a host! For those who may not (yet!) know Eliza, she's the unbelievably talented designer/founder of Paper Eliza who is currently planning for one of the biggest events in her life - her wedding! Below Eliza gives us her thoughts on how events bring together community (even during tough times!) and give you memories that last a lifetime.

What does the word host(ess) mean to you?

Being servant hearted!

When hosting an event, what is most important to you about your guests' experience?

Shock factor! I LOVE surprises! Whether that's unexpected merch, above and beyond decorations, or just a funny dessert or food item, I love having something surprising and memorable happen at the party.

What is the most memorable event you've hosted and why?

Ask me in 6 months and I'll say my wedding ha! ;)

But truthfully, my most memorable and special event(s) I've thrown are the "crush parties" that my best friend and I threw for all of our girlfriends in college and the first couple years of post-grad. We branded them - each one had a different theme and we handed out t-shirts, buttons, cups, koozies, masks (it was COVID, so we made do, ha!) and just had the most fun time planning out all of our surprises and tricks up our sleeves for our friends. We had 50 girls there at its biggest and I will always cherish those memories.

What's the most memorable event you've attended and what made it so special as an attendee?

I attended the Garden and Gun Round Top Designers Dinner last year and it was SO beautiful (s/o Holloway Events!). The food was incredible, the drinks were flowing, the flowers were everywhere. Everything was in abundance and everyone was dressed to the nines. I loved meeting designers and artists across the south and the space was breathtakingly memorable.

Do you have a favorite party favor (that you've given or received)?

I have been to several weddings and bachelorettes where HappyyHats are given and that takes the cake on best gift received! Maggie with HappyyHats is one of my friends and she has so many different and cool ideas - the trucker hats are always fun and unique.

Another amazing one was a build-your-own Hart Jewelry necklace charm bar. I am obsessed with Hart's brand and I had the best time chit chatting with her about the meaning behind all of the charm options.
